Uproar over illegal Mazar in The Doon School; DM got the structure destroyed
Amid the Dhami government‘s campaign against illegal Mazar constructions in Uttarakhand, a matter came to the fore in Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun, in which a Mazar was being constructed inside the country’s prestigious residential ‘The Doon School‘. As per the sources, this Mazar (mausoleum) was built in an unauthorized way and the administration got it demolished as soon as it received the information.
The unauthorized construction of a Mazar was brought to light by activist Radha Dhoni Semval, from a Hindu organization, who streamed a live video on social media on Tuesday, showing the mausoleum being built within the School boundary. This caused a significant stir in the government and administration
District Magistrate Savin Bansal promptly ordered the demolition of the Mazar to prevent the situation from escalating.
The unexpected construction of a mausoleum on this boarding School campus has raised eyebrows. The purpose behind erecting such a structure at a prestigious institution like Doon School remains unclear. Upon receiving the information, DM Savin Bansal swiftly ordered an investigation and subsequently had the mausoleum demolished.
The Dhami government in Uttarakhand has launched a campaign against the illegal construction of Mazars. This initiative follows a series of actions taken by the state government to address unauthorized religious structures, particularly those built on public and forest lands. Moreover, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has emphasized that the government will not tolerate “land jihad” and has vowed to demolish all illegal Mazars. The campaign involves identifying and removing unauthorized structures, with over 300 Mazars demolished in recent months.
It is important to note that the Supreme Court has clearly stated that no shrine or religious place can be built without the permission of the District Magistrate (DM). However, the shrine being constructed at the country’s prestigious School is seen as a direct violation of this order. Upon receiving the news, DM Savin Bansal immediately halted the construction. Initially, he ordered an investigation to legalize the matter, but due to the seriousness of the situation, the under-construction shrine was later demolished.
