Explosions reported in Tehran and Karaj after strikes targeted fuel storage facilities allegedly linked to Iran’s military infrastructure
Oil storage facilities in and around Tehran were struck late Saturday in coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel, marking the first known attacks targeting the Islamic Republic’s oil infrastructure.
According to Iran’s oil ministry, several fuel storage depots in Tehran and the neighbouring Alborz province were hit during the strikes. Large explosions were reported across parts of the capital, with residents describing powerful blasts and widespread fires.
Videos circulating on social media showed massive fireballs and thick plumes of smoke rising above the skyline in multiple locations.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed carrying out strikes on several fuel storage sites and energy facilities in Tehran, saying the locations were being used by Iranian armed forces.
Israeli officials described the operation as a “significant strike” aimed at weakening the military infrastructure of Iran.

Explosions reported across Tehran
Residents across Tehran reported hearing loud explosions late Saturday night, hours after an earlier strike targeted Mehrabad International Airport, the capital’s busiest domestic aviation hub.
The blasts were strong enough to shake homes several kilometres away, according to reports citing local residents.
State media said one of the impacted fuel depots was located near the city’s main refinery in the southern district of Shahr Rey.
Additional footage posted online appeared to show towering flames and smoke rising from oil storage facilities in different parts of the capital.
One video filmed along a highway on the northern edge of Tehran showed a large fire burning near another oil storage site close to the suburb of Lavasan.
Multiple depots reported hit
Iranian authorities also confirmed that an oil storage facility in Karaj, a city west of Tehran in Alborz province, was struck.
The Shahran oil depot in north-western Tehran — which had previously been targeted during earlier hostilities — was also reportedly hit again, sending thick columns of dark smoke into the sky.
