Test 5G call made using network fully designed and developed in India
Union Minister of Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railway, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday successfully tested the 5G network by making video and voice call. The network has been developed as a multi-institute collaborative project by a total of eight institutes led by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras,
Vaishnaw announced the successful testing of the 5G call at IIT Madras. 5G network is a vital stage for India towards self-reliance in the telecom sector.
“Atmanirbhar 5G. Successfully tested 5G call at IIT Madras. The entire end-to-end network is designed and developed in India,” he said in a tweet, where he shared his making video and voice calls in 5G.

The other institutes that participated in the project include IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) and Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT), according to a PMO release.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first 5G trial at IIT Madras. During the Silver jubilee Celebrations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India (TRAI), Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that 5G is going to contribute $450 billion to the country’s economy in the next one and half decades and will increase the country’s employment generation and progress.”
Telecom Secretary K. Rajaraman had on Wednesday told media persons that the introduction of 5G service will require suitable skills for new technologies and large scale employment will be generated.
