Key appointment to strengthen US leadership in AI

In the latest development, US President-elect Donald Trump has named Indian American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and author Sriram Krishnan, an aide of billionaire Elon Musk and Microsoft’s ex-employee as Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence. The announcement was part of a broader set of appointments made by the president-elect.

In an official statement, Trump said, “Sriram Krishnan will serve as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.” He emphasized that Krishnan would work closely with David Sacks to ensure America’s continued leadership in AI and to coordinate AI policy across government agencies, including collaboration with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Who is Sriram Krishnan?

Sriram Krishnan, an accomplished tech leader, studied at SRM Valliammai Engineering College in Kattankulathur, Tamil Nadu. His career began at Microsoft, where he was a founding member of the Windows Azure team, contributing to the development of its APIs and services. He is also the author of Programming Windows Azure for O’Reilly.

Krishnan joined Facebook in 2013, where he significantly contributed to scaling the company’s mobile app download ads business. He later held roles at Snap and Twitter (now X), where he worked with Elon Musk on restructuring the platform. In 2021, he became a general partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and later led the firm’s first international office in London in 2023.

Beyond his corporate roles, Krishnan serves as an advisor to the Indian fintech company Cred and co-hosts The Aarthi and Sriram Show, a podcast with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.

After Trump’s announcement, Krishnan expressed his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI working closely with David Sacks.”
