Former PM Deve Gowda congratulates PM Modi for inaugurating Adi Guru Shankaracharya’s statue at Kedarnath
Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda congratulated PM Modi for his dedication to transforming the holy site of Kedarnath and has said that he is deeply moved to see the black schist statue of Sri Adi Shankaracharya at the holy Kedarnath.
The former PM Deve Gowda has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, congratulating him for inaugurating Adi Guru Shankaracharya’s statue at Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.
Deve Gowda stated, “I wrote to Prime Minister Modi on how the Sringeri Sharada Peetham in Karnataka, established by the great saint, has to me always been a refined symbol of interfaith harmony.”
He said that he is an ardent follower of the Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham in Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka, which is one of the four cardinal centers established by Adi Shankaracharya.
The work for the statue had commenced in 2019, and on the occasion of Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the 12-foot statue of Shankaracharya at Kedarnath. The black schist statue weighs a massive 35 tonnes.
The Prime Minister offered prayers at the Shiva temple before unveiling the statue.
Deve Gowda wrote in the letter, “I wish to soon visit Kedarnath to see the newly-installed statue of the great saint. It is also a matter of great joy that the statue was sculpted by a Mysuru sculptor — Arun Yogiraj. I also learned that the black schist is from H D Kote in the Mysore district of Karnataka. There is so much Karnataka connection in this endeavour. It is all divinely arranged. May the grace of almighty be on you.”
The magnanimous 12 feet tall statue, weighing 35 tonnes, has been installed on a rebuilt samadhi of Shankaracharya at Kedarnath, an important Hindu pilgrimage center.
