Journalist & Historian: The two sides of a coin

They are like the two sides of the same coin. A Historian has studied history like he has lived it, hence a reader trusts whatever he reads about the historical evidence that a historian mentions. Similarly, Journalists are the eyes and ears of the viewers and the readers. People trust him to give news and happenings around the world.

The reader/ viewer pays them to get himself informed about the occurrence of events where he himself is not present.

Journalists and historians educate the public about the events and the issues in the surroundings. So they act as a bridge between the public and the place of an event. At times they witness the entire incidence and narrate it to the public so that they actually get the feel of how the instance occurred.

The reader trusts them. He believes that whatever news and information have been given, to be true. The main role of the profession is to collect information, verify and analyze thoroughly, assemble findings into a news feed, and deliver the news without expressing their own views into it. That is the basis of their code of conduct and ethics.

If Journalists and Historians are biased, prejudiced, corrupt, and dishonest then certainly the question arises, whether they are doing their work with integrity? In such a case, they will project biased or untrue information to the viewers/ readers. The beholders will certainly believe the piece of information and that can be hazardous in many ways. There may be spread of rumours, grief, unrest among the public, and in extreme cases, even destruction in the society.

Interestingly a few extremist ideologies, Leftists, teach their followers that it is moral to lie in order to get their desired outcome. Historians/ Journalists who are under the influence of these ideologies grant themselves the moral sanction to lie resulting in complexity in their profession.

The results of this fakery are slow and sure, the unsuspecting reader believes in the biased/ untrue story which acts as a poison- destroy him, if not quickly but certainly.
