Flood fury in Maharashtra

Several parts of Maharashtra, including Pune and Nashik, are grappling with severe flooding following heavy rainfall. In Nashik, twelve individuals are stranded in Malegaon due to rising water levels in the Girna River.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the fire department are on-site, working to rescue those affected.

Nashik has experienced 250 mm of rain in the past 48 hours, prompting the Gangapur Dam to release water after reaching 86 percent capacity. Local authorities have removed several shops from the riverbanks and issued alerts to residents.

In Pune, areas such as Ekta Nagar are inundated, leading to the evacuation of several homes. The Army has been deployed to assist with rescue operations across the flood-affected regions.

In Palghar district, heavy rain led to a road crash. Local authorities said four speeding bikes crashed due to low visibility and seven people were injured, four of them critically.

The weather department has issued warnings for more rain in Pune, Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Satara and Ratnagiri.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be visiting waterlogged areas in Pune today. He will inspect the Singhad Road area and speak to residents.
