At least 24 people were killed and more than 50 others injured after a powerful explosion struck near a railway track in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Sunday, officials said. The blast occurred close to the Chaman Phatak railway station in Quetta, sending shockwaves through the surrounding area and triggering panic among residents.

Rescue teams, police personnel and security officials rushed to the site shortly after the explosion. Authorities said a train suffered partial damage in the blast, while nearly 10 vehicles parked nearby were also affected. The force of the explosion shattered windows and glass panels of buildings in the vicinity.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as people scrambled for safety moments after the blast ripped through the area.

Following the incident, the administration declared an emergency in government hospitals across Quetta to manage the large number of casualties. Doctors, paramedics and additional medical staff were called in urgently as rescue teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.

Railway officials said the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express was halted at Quetta Railway Station as a precautionary measure after the explosion. Security agencies have also been placed on high alert across the city while investigators work to determine the cause of the blast.

Babar Yousafzai, spokesperson for the home minister, urged residents to avoid gathering near the site so rescue and emergency operations could continue smoothly without obstruction.
