Storm over Swati Maliwal’s assault charge at Delhi CM residence
Bringing more headaches to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his close aide, and Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on Monday approached Delhi Police, complaining that she was assaulted by Kejriwal’s Private Secretary Bibhav Kumar. According to Delhi Police, around 9:30 am, two calls were received from Swati Maliwal complaining that she was assaulted at the Chief Minister’s residence. Earlier she called from Chief Minister’s home from her mobile phone accusing Kejriwal also and the second complaint after 10 minutes was limited to Bibhav.
Later around 10 am, she visited the nearby police station also, but did not register a complaint, said Delhi Police officials. Swati Maliwal is not in the good books of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cadre due to her silence after the arrest of Kejriwal. She was also facing probes for illegal recruitments by CBI during her stint as Chairperson of Delhi Women’s Commission (DCW).
According to AAP leaders, she invited the wrath of many when visited Kejriwal’s residence and blocked many from visiting Kejriwal, released from prison three days ago. Swati complained to the Police over the phone that Bibhav blocked her from meeting Kejriwal and hit her when she tried to enter the Chief Minister’s room. However, Swati Maliwal is now staying away from the media and not talking about her complaints to the Police.
Swati Maliwal has been very close to Arvind Kejriwal since 2007 and got plum posts like DCW Chairperson and Rajya Sabha MP. PGurus in October 2016 reported a detailed account by an ex-colleague of Kejriwal about the close the relationship.[1]
Many AAP leaders say, that out of anger for not allowing her to meet Kejriwal, she filed the fake complaint. They say, Swati has given ball in the court of Delhi Police, which is under the Central government. Kejriwal who came out of prison on interim bail must be telling now: “You too Swati…”
