China’s Xi outlines roadmap for peace as Iran-US tensions rise
Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for respect for national sovereignty and stability in West Asia, presenting a four-point proposal to address ongoing tensions involving the United States, Iran and Israel.
Xi made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, marking the first visit by a West Asian leader to China since the conflict escalated.
He said the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of countries in the region should be respected, and emphasised the need to ensure the safety of personnel, facilities and institutions.
Four-point proposal for stability
Xi outlined a four-point approach focused on peaceful coexistence, strengthening regional security frameworks, upholding national sovereignty, and promoting coordinated development.
He stressed the importance of international law, warning against a breakdown of global norms, and called for joint efforts to create conditions conducive to economic development and long-term stability in the region.
Focus on Hormuz tensions
The remarks come amid concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global energy supplies.
China has called for maintaining open and secure passage through the waterway. A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said the ongoing disruption is linked to the broader conflict and urged all parties to exercise restraint and work toward de-escalation.
Officials added that ensuring stability in the region and uninterrupted trade routes is in the broader interest of the international community.
