Finance Ministry summons Infosys CEO Salil Parekh on new IT portal’s continual glitches
The leading software firm Infosys is becoming a real embarrassment to the Modi Government, sabotaging its main projects. The Income Tax Department on Sunday Tweeted that the Ministry of Finance has summoned Infosys Chief Executive Officer Salil Parekh for the past three months about the glitches happening in the new Income Tax portal.
Ministry of Finance has summoned Sh Salil Parekh,MD&CEO @Infosys on 23/08/2021 to explain to hon’ble FM as to why even after 2.5 months since launch of new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available.

Recently PGurus published a petition filed by former Income Tax Commissioner D P Kar to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to investigate the role of former Revenue Secretary A B Pandey in allowing illegally the new Income Tax portal contract worth more than Rs.4,200 crore to Infosys when the existing portal was working fine. Kar alleged close proximity of Pandey with Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani from Aadhar Card days and the US-settled Pandey’s wife’s business links with Nilekani. PGurus also published the detailed six-page complaint by D P Kar on the “nefarious” activities of former Revenue Secretary A B Pandey.[1]
All the major Government portals – be it MCA, GST, or the new Income Tax portal – built and operated by Infosys are totally chaotic and painful for the users. Infosys has bagged more than Rs.6,000 crore for these three projects alone. PGurus Managing Editor Sree Iyer wrote a series of articles on the failures and frauds and dubious activities in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) network GSTN.[2]
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy raised his voice many times against the dubious operation of GSTN from the beginning citing the GST network was controlled by private banks like ICICI and HDFC consortiums. Later Government brought GSTN under Government control.[3]
In 2019, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) pointed out several malpractices and lacunae in the GST administration. GST was an old Congress regime project started in the mid-90s and implemented by Modi Government with much fanfare like patronizing Nandan Nilekani’s Aadhar Card project by BJP Government which objected tooth and nail while in Opposition.[4]
The question here that hangs fire is will Modi Government blacklist the errant, incompetent Infosys which messed up the administration of major Government portals – MCA, GSTN, and new Income Tax portal. Apart from Government, millions of users and the business community are suffering by using the Government portals operated by Infosys.
